Funding Provided for Seven Local Schools Under Summer Works Scheme

ATTVINHV

I warmly welcome the announcement by the Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan T.D., that seven schools in Dublin South will undertake school improvements this summer.

The successful schools in securing funding under the Summer Works Scheme are Scoil Naomh Treasa in Mount Merrion, St Patrick’s National School in Glencullen, St. Laurence’s Boys National School in Kilmacud, Good Shepherd National School in Churchtown, St. Tiernan’s Community School in Balally, Our Lady’s Grove in Goatstown and Ballyroan Boys National School.

These schools will receive funds to improve and upgrade existing school buildings.  This investment will allow schools to carry out vital building works across three categories of projects, window repair and replacement, upgrading of science and specialist rooms and external improvements, such as upgrading of school perimeter fences and walls.

These works will be carried out in schools over the summer months, when the pupils and teachers are on holidays, so the disruption to schooling will be minimised.

The Summer Works Scheme also acts as an important boost to the local economy, through the creation of jobs in the construction industry.

This is an important investment that will directly benefit local schools and demonstrates Labour’s continued commitment to delivering for local communities.

€36 million has been allocated in total this year towards the scheme, benefitting some 559 schools nationwide.
