White’s Well Wishes To Leaving Cert Whizzes
I would like to wish all students in Dublin Rathdown who are waiting nervously on their Leaving Certificate results the very best of luck. It’s a particularly nerve-wracking time.
I want to congratulate students who worked hard to achieve their results, as well as their teachers, parents and guardians who supported them. To have progressed through 13-14 years of education and to complete your final exams represents a significant achievement in itself.
For people who did not get the result they were hoping for, don’t let the Leaving Cert define you, your abilities and talents. With hard work and commitment there are many different routes to achieving your goals and reaching your potential.
Labour in Government is committed to providing good, quality jobs, education and training and have helped to create conditions whereby apprenticeships have re-emerged as a significant, tangible training and career option. This year alone we have seen the ESB launch their apprenticeship programme which provide for 300 new apprentices in the next five years, while Eircom will take on 60 apprentices a year over the next five years. Both Gas Networks Ireland and the Office of Public Works have also both begun the process of hiring a significant number of apprentices.
I want to alert students to a Leaving Certificate Helpline run by the National Parents’ Council and supported by the Department of Education. Through this service qualified guidance counsellors will give advice and support to both students and their parents. The helpline phone number is 1800 265 165 and it will open at 10am, Wednesday 12 August. It will operate until Wednesday 19 August.
For students wishing to continue their education at Third Level, the first-round of CAO offers will be available on Monday, 17 August. The CAO process will continue into early September with second round offers being made available from 27 August.
