Gov/Political Reform
Along with economic recovery we urgently need reform and renewal in our democracy, and in many of our institutions. When trust is lost it is extremely difficult to restore. Some politicians by their own actions have contributed to this shocking loss of confidence in the democratic system. While I believe that a change of government is an essential first step in restoring trust, it won’t be enough. There will have to be fundamental reform in the way the Oireachtas does the people’s business. We in Labour will lead this reform, including addressing constitutional change where this is necessary. Our policy paper 'New Government, Better Government' details the most radical reforms since the foundation of the State.
