Economy
Our economy has been damaged by our government. It’s true that there has been a global recession and banking crisis. But most of our problems are home-grown. We now need to re-direct economic development and investment towards real growth and sustainable jobs. Labour has proposed a Strategic Investment Bank to get credit moving in the economy, and to help small businesses. I believe that the State has a vital role to play in economic recovery. We must also support and encourage new and creative ideas in science, industry and the arts. Addressing the deficit is crucial, but the big priority now must be reviving the real economy, with equality and social justice at the heart of our policy.
