As Minister for Energy, I welcome Bord Gáis Energy’s (BGE) announcement that it is to reduce its residential gas unit rate by 2.5%, and its electricity unit rate by 2%, from 1st October 2015. BGE estimates that the price reductions will reduce annual domestic energy bills by €44.59, or by nearly €100 when added to earlier BGE price cuts.

ite has welcomed this week’s official opening of Mount Carmel Community Hospital in Churchtown. The hospital, which currently employs 60 staff, has been redeveloped as a dedicated community hospital for the Dublin area after the HSE bought it for €11 million in April 2014.
The Labour Party is seeking to recruit a dynamic professional secretarial assistant based in Dublin. The role will involve administrative organisation of constituency office affairs including a full range of secretarial duties and direct communication with constituents/correspondence. This is a busy and demanding role, which required a high degree of confidentiality and sensitivity, flexibility and keen personal initiative.

I support the Low Pay Commission’s recommendation that the minimum wage should be increased to €9.15. An increase would benefit low paid workers in Dublin Rathdown.

Today marks the official launch of Eircode, Ireland’s new postcode system. Over the next two weeks, every residential and business address in Ireland will receive a letter in the post informing them of the new Eircode for that address. Members of the public are being encouraged to look out for the letter in the coming weeks and, when it arrives, memorise the Eircode and keep it somewhere handy.
I warmly welcome the news that €93,469 has been allocated to a wide variety of community groups in Dublin Rathdown. This funding will greatly support the largely voluntary efforts of local community groups.
