Anyone who is over 70 and does not have a medical card or GP visit card is now eligible to sign up for free doctor’s visits. The service will be available from Wednesday 5 August.
I warmly welcome the news that 35 childcare facilities in Dublin Rathdown will benefit from grants to improve their services.
Today marks the official launch of Eircode, Ireland’s new postcode system. Over the next two weeks, every residential and business address in Ireland will receive a letter in the post informing them of the new Eircode for that address. Members of the public are being encouraged to look out for the letter in the coming weeks and, when it arrives, memorise the Eircode and keep it somewhere handy.
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and I, along with my colleague Ged Nash, yesterday presented the 1000th Trading Online Voucher to small business owner, John Lawton from JL Intelligent Cooling Systems, a Kilkenny-based company that sells portable cooling and heating systems.
I’m delighted to note that the registration process for free GP care for children under 6 is open from Monday 15 June. I understand that parents can register by logging onto www.gpvisitcard.ie.
Minister for Energy Alex White, TD, today (Wednesday) awarded grants worth a total of €18.6 million to 29 community energy efficiency initiatives. The projects will improve the energy efficiency of 2,435 homes and 400 public, private and community buildings. They are expected to deliver lifetime energy savings of €140 million in the localities concerned.”

And I want to thank everyone who participated in the consultation process that has informed our thinking about the forthcoming energy White Paper.
By extending the rights and responsibilities of marriage we have made an enormous statement – to ourselves and to the world – that Ireland is a modern, generous and inclusive country that values all its citizens equally. I am particularly pleased that my own constituency provided such a clear endorsement for marriage equality, with 49,109 people in Dublin South voting yes to the proposal put before them, the highest number of yes votes of any constituency.
