Alex White Welcomes New Maternity Hospital for St. Vincents
The country’s biggest maternity hospital is to relocate to a new campus at St. Vincent’s University Hospital at Elm Park. This Government announcement was strongly endorsed by Minister for Primary Care, Alex White TD.
Speaking at Holles Street last night, Minister White spoke about how the move is very positive for women and infants in Ireland:
“With the government commitment to invest €150 million in moving the National Maternity Hospital to St. Vincent’s, it is planned that care will be provided for up to 10,000 births a year. The new facility on St. Vincent’s Elm Park campus will house a high dependency unit, a neo-natal intensive care unit and a special care baby unit.”
“It is an important push forward to realise this long overdue move. The €150 million of funding announced yesterday will make it a reality.”
Dr. Rhona Mahony, master of Holles Street said the move “will change the face of obstetrics in Ireland” and that “it’s fantastic to see the state investing in women.”
