BMX Course for Marlay Park
I warmly welcome the announcement that over €58,000 has been allocated to Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to build a BMX course in Marlay Park as part of the Sport Nation Grant Initiative.
The new Marlay Park track will be of modest size and will fill the needs of local youngsters until a larger, state-of-the-art course will be built in Jamestown Park in the future.
I want to commend the hard work of my colleague Cllr Lettie McCarthy, who submitted the original motion to create the BMX Course.
I’m delighted that local teenagers will get to avail of this amenity. It’s essential that our young people have public spaces to socialise and be active in a safe environment.
It is anticipated that the final design and public consultation process will take place in Spring/Summer 2014. It is hoped that construction will take place in October/November 2014.
